Director Biography – Zack Hamm

Zack Hamm is an award-winning Vancouver-based writer, director, and producer whose work blends dark humour, heart, and humanity. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, to a commercial-producing father and focus-pulling mother, Zack has been immersed in the creative process from an early age, moving to Vancouver in 2011 to pursue a career in film.

After being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2016, Zack turned to storytelling as both an artistic outlet and a form of healing. Now cancer-free, he has built a reputation for crafting authentic, emotionally resonant films that have screened and won accolades internationally.

Dedicated to stories that amplify underrepresented voices, Zack continues to collaborate with longtime creative partner Sean Carey, developing a slate of films defined by bold vision, emotional honesty, and a lived-in realism.

Director Statement

With concern for fertility rights worldwide, it felt timely for real-life married couple Sean and Louis to play themselves, recounting aspects of their long, arduous, and costly journey through surrogacy that ultimately led to the birth of their daughter, Maisie.

No family is built the same, which is what makes them beautiful. I hope our story reminds people that love, in all forms, is worth the struggle.
