Synopsis
Following a young trans man who embarks on a journey to tattoo over his top surgery scars, this short documentary explores the power of community, queer resilience, and body adornment as gender-affirming care.
Director Biography – Amushay Sheikh & Lee Nisar
Anushay Sheikh (they/them) is an artist working in photography, film, video, and installation. Drawing heavily on their own experiences and identities, their work highlights vulnerability as a form of resistance and empowerment for marginalized and misrepresented communities. Their work, studies, and activism centre around the intersection of queerness, religion, and race/ethnicity. Anushay completed their BA in Economics and Political Science at McGill University. Their art practice is heavily process-based and rooted in anti-oppressive practices obtained during her education. Their most recent project, “The Test” was created with the support of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
